Vizille: Museum of the French Revolution

Vizille is a small town just south (south-east) of Grenoble. I took a bus down there on a Sunday to visit its main attraction – The Museum of the French Revolution.

In history, during the French Revolution major meeting were held in the Chateau (Vizille Castle).

A statue. She is Athena, the goddess of Wisdom and War, a symbol that keeps appearing in the art works around the time of the French Revolution.

I’ve entered, in front of the chateau is a large green field and a park. I took this, standing in the middle of the green field.

And this:

A friend of mine remarked that these pics remind him of something out of Harry Potter (Hogwarts School to be precise) . I certainly agree.

And this from the other side of the little lake:

Ducks and swans in and around the clear waters of the pond.

There are peacocks too.

The beautiful park:

Horses in a field nearby:

A small maze garden nearer to the Chateau.

The museum is a must-visit if you’re in the area. Get the English radio from the ticket counter because everything labeled in French. There is a small guide book costing 1.50 Euros for the Liberty Gallery – get that, because it isn’t included in the radioguide. Most brochures and tourist guides are in French.

The exhibits and artworks are really incredible. You can feel the emotion of those times in the pieces and works displayed.
