Aftermath of the Canberra Fires
Heather and I also visited the Canberra forest reserves where there was the Forest Fires just last Febuary. Completely charred, but far from destroyed
The reserve lies bare, brown and black. Heather tells me that at this time of the year, the area would be a coat of green, and you would have been able to hear the birds, insects and other lively noises. Now it's just total silence.
Clean-up in progress.
You can see the wide extent of damage caused by the fires.
The black mass is a piece of wood turned into charcoal.
But as you can see, the forest has already begun regenerating:
